#WritingCommunity is the broader, platform-neutral tag and the safer default. #WritersOfTwitter still carries the old platform name; community tags like this often outlive a rebrand because the name is the community's own, but whether it keeps its traffic is not something we can measure from outside X. #WritersLife is the day-to-day equivalent for both.

#Newsletter for the general practice, #Substack when the platform itself is part of the point, and #Blogging when the piece lives on your own site. #ContentCreator is much broader and pulls in video and social people too — useful for reach, less useful if you want readers who actually read.

Tag it while it is moving. #AmWriting and #Manuscript exist for drafts in flight, and the people in them are writing too, which is why progress posts get replies there and polished announcements often do not. Save #IndieAuthor and #SelfPublishing for when there is something to buy, and #ShortStory or #Poetry when you are posting the work itself.

One or two — X's own help centre recommends no more than two per post, and that holds for the Writing & Newsletters niche as much as any other. Lead with one broad tag (e.g. #Writing), add one specific tag if it genuinely fits, and stop. A post wearing five tags reads as spam to the people you wanted reading it.

Lead with the broad one — #Writing — and pair it with something narrower from the list (e.g. #WritingCommunity, #AmWriting) so the post reaches the people who actually care about that corner of the niche. We can't tell you which tag carries the most posts: X doesn't publish per-tag volume, and anyone quoting a number for it is guessing.
