Hashtag Library — FAQ
How many hashtags should I use on a tweet?+
X is different from Instagram or TikTok. Best practice on X is 1–3 hashtags per tweet — and only when they add discovery value. Adding 5+ hashtags actually suppresses reach because the algorithm reads it as spam. Use one broad tag (e.g. #AI) plus one specific tag (e.g. #PromptEngineering) and move on.
Do hashtags still work on X (Twitter) in 2026?+
Yes, but their role is narrow. Hashtags help with three things: (1) joining a live conversation around an event or trend, (2) signalling your niche to people who search the tag, (3) making your post indexable for future researchers. They do NOT meaningfully boost the For You ranker — that one is driven by engagement velocity, dwell time and replies.
Why 40 niches? Isn't that arbitrary?+
We chose 40 niches that actually have active hashtag communities on X — places where searching the tag returns fresh tweets every hour. If your topic isn't in the library, type it in the search box. If we don't have a curated list, we send you to the live X search for that hashtag plus suggested variations — so you can verify which tags are alive before posting.
Why don't you include tags like #foodtok or #fyp?+
Those are TikTok-native. They get used on X but with low engagement and zero meaningful reach. We exclude them on purpose. Every hashtag in the library is one that we've verified gets active, daily usage from real X accounts in 2026.
What's the difference between this and the Trends page?+
Trends shows what's exploding RIGHT NOW for a country — refreshed hourly. The Hashtag Library is the opposite: curated, evergreen tags that stay relevant for months. Use Trends for time-sensitive content; use the Library for ongoing niche positioning.
Can I just open the tag on X without copying?+
Yes — every hashtag has a one-click "Open on X" link that takes you straight to the live search for that tag. Useful for checking how active a hashtag is before you commit to using it in your own post.
