X Launches Subscriber-only Group Chats in Beta for Small Creators

X is testing Subscriber-only Group Chats for creators with 800 or fewer subscribers. Here's how setup works, how invites work, and what it means for creators.

One-minute explainer: X Launches Subscriber-only Group Chats in Beta for Small Creators

X has started testing Subscriber-only Group Chats, a new way for creators to talk with their subscribers in one private space. The @XCreators account announced the feature on October 28, 2026, and X says it is now in beta for creators with 800 or fewer subscribers.

What X announced

In its official announcement, X says creators can "chat in real time with your most loyal supporters and build a community that keeps them subscribed." The post is short and practical. It names the feature, the eligibility limit and where to turn it on.

What the post does not say matters too. X does not state when, or whether, the beta will open to creators with more than 800 subscribers. It also does not mention regions, apps or a timeline beyond "now in beta."

How Subscriber-only Group Chats work

X says to set up a chat in Creator Studio > Subscriptions. The 34-second demo video attached to the post walks through that flow. On the Subscriptions screen, a Growth section lists "Subscribers-only Chat" with a "New" tag.

The setup screen in the video describes four ideas: an inner circle for your subscribers; sharing photos, videos, files and voice notes, or starting audio calls; keeping it exclusive with disappearing messages and screenshot blocking; and a chat that runs by itself, with new subscribers joining automatically and canceled subscribers removed automatically. Those details come from the demo's on-screen interface rather than the announcement text, so treat them as X's preview of the experience.

In the demo, a creator names the group "AJ's Inner Circle," taps Create Group Chat, and the group shows up in the chat inbox. Subscribers then reply to the creator's question about making the platform better.

Sharing the invite link

X's follow-up post covers growth. X says to copy your chat's invite link from the chat settings and share it in a post. Anyone who isn't subscribed yet will be prompted to subscribe to join.

The image attached to that post shows how this can look in the timeline: a creator post inviting feedback, with a card for "Allegra's Circle," 235 members, and a "Join subs-only chat" button.

Who it is for

Right now, X says the beta is for creators with 800 or fewer subscribers. That points to smaller subscription creators who are still building their community. X links to its Help Center page on creator subscriptions for more details.

By November 1, 2026, the main announcement had about 320,884 views, 1,286 likes, 175 replies, 159 quotes, 147 reposts and 232 bookmarks.

What it means for creators (our take)

Here's our take. Subscriptions are easier to sell when people know exactly what they get. A group chat gives subscribers something concrete: direct conversation with you and with each other.

The invite link is the most useful piece. Because non-subscribers are prompted to subscribe when they try to join, every invite post doubles as a subscription pitch. A post that explains what happens inside the chat, such as weekly Q&As or early looks at your work, gives people a reason to tap rather than just a link.

A few practical steps if you qualify:

  • Set up the chat in Creator Studio > Subscriptions and pick a name that signals belonging.
  • Write the invite post with a specific promise, then share it when your audience is around. Our best time to post on X tool can help you choose a slot.
  • Save X's demo with our Twitter video downloader if you want to revisit the setup flow later.

If you have more than 800 subscribers, X has not said when you will get access, so keep an eye on @XCreators for updates.
